Description: Assistant Superintendent (Starting July 1, 2023)
Job Summary: The Assistant Superintendent, reporting directly to the Superintendent, oversees all matters as defined by the Superintendent, and is their representative in lieu of the Superintendent.
The Assistant Superintendent provides coordination and oversight in the implementation of the Strategic Plan and initiatives to support the attainment of the goals and objectives of the plan and coordinates special projects as assigned by the Superintendent. The Assistant Superintendent champions the District-wide vision for a commitment to high expectations and for the success of all students. The Assistant Superintendent provides visionary leadership to manage and influence future growth opportunities to achieve long term performance goals & objectives. The Assistant Superintendent develops a culture of collaboration between the Board of Education and District leaders that results in a shared vision for District success, as well as, creates avenues to gain relevant and timely feedback from our community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: As a member of the District’s Senior Leadership, this position is responsible for:
Providing chief support for the Superintendent and serving as Acting Superintendent at the direction of the Superintendent.
Providing coordination and oversight in the implementation of the Strategic Plan to support the attainment of the focus areas, subsequent priority areas and goals.
Managing special projects initiated by the Superintendent including preparing District level reports and presentations.
Ensuring that expectations and deadlines are clearly communicated to administrators and that issues requiring the Superintendent’s attention are handled efficiently and in a timely manner.
Channeling incoming correspondence directed to the Superintendent’s office to appropriate personnel for action or information
Receiving and resolving concerns from staff, administrators, and the public in a timely manner; referring appropriate issues to Human Resources for resolution; providing information on established policies and procedures, and serving as a liaison between the Superintendent’s office and members of the community, families, and staff.
Supervising the Public Information Officer and advising on communication strategies; may serve as the primary point of contact
Leading planning and preparation for Board of Education meetings, including:
Advisor to the Board of Education leadership and Superintendent in establishing meeting content and objectives.
Manage development of meeting content, including coordinating senior leadership participation and presentation materials.
Supervising some central office administrators in assessing needs, allocating resources, and evaluating the effectiveness of all Athletic and Activities programming.
Providing integrated policy analysis and strategic consultation to the Board of Education, Superintendent, and senior administration on major issues affecting the District.
Facilitating discussions among staff, Board members, Superintendent, and community leaders to resolve issues related to the operational and strategic issues.
Interacting with industry, government, legislative interests’ group and community officials in the representation and development of the District’s strategic initiatives.
Building coalitions and working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders at all levels within MCVSD51 and with students, families, communities, advocacy groups, and partners to effectively represent the Superintendent and MCVSD51.
Representing the District and Superintendent publicly at meetings, in staff meetings, conferences, community events and more including local, state and national events.
Leading coordination and integration of high priority activities of other senior administrators in the development and implementation of established core initiatives for the Office of the Superintendent and the District, including:
Alignment and improvement of internal policy development systems and structures; and
Planning and facilitation of weekly meetings of the Senior Leadership Team.
Acting as an advocate for district schools and departments to ensure that quality support and services are provided.
Performing other related duties as assigned.
Staff Supervision and Development: Supervision and evaluation is conducted in the framework of program goals and expectations including a variety of human resources responsibilities but not limited to:
Directly supervising multiple District level Director positions, the Public Information Office and administrative staff.
Interviewing, hiring, training, promoting, planning, and assigning work,
Conducting performance evaluations, rewarding and disciplining employee conduct,
Addressing employee/student complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in education, business or related field
Proven experience working within a large organization to achieve a change vision or implementing change initiatives;
Minimum of five years of experience in building or district level administration role preferred;
Valid Colorado driver’s license or Colorado Identification required;
Criminal background check required for hire.
Working Conditions: 260 days / year
