Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer in English Language (Ref.AC2020/003/01)
The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen is established in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval of the Ministry of Education. It inherits the educational philosophy and academic systems of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is intended to evolve into a world class research university with strong Chinese cultural influence. It is committed to nurturing high-end talent with global perspective, Chinese tradition, and social responsibility.
Up to now, more than 5,600 undergraduate and postgraduate students are studying at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. Its long-term goal is to recruit 11,000 domestic and international students, 7,500 of whom will be undergraduate students and 3,500 Masters or PhD students. At present, the University offers programmes in science, engineering, economic management, and humanities and social science.
The School of Humanities and Social Science (HSS) has two important missions for our university’s education. First, HSS provides university core courses for all university students in multiple areas, including general education, English, Chinese, physical education and fitness, and information technology. These areas lay the foundation for the comprehensive education that all CUHK-Shenzhen students will receive.
Beyond the university core curriculum, HSS intends to become a school of excellence in humanities and social sciences, and to provide high-quality programmes in multiple areas at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. At present, HSS offers four high-quality Master’s programmes: Master of Arts in Translation and Interpreting Studies, Master of Arts in Simultaneous Interpreting, Master of Arts in Global Studies, and Master of Science in Applied Psychology. At the undergraduate level, HSS offers Bachelor of Arts in Translation, Bachelor of Arts in English Studies (pending MOE approval), and Bachelor of Science in Applied Psychology.
HSS is looking for applicants who have strong interest in joining the Language and Communication Division and helping our students to become competent communicators in English and other languages. The appointees are expected to commence work in no later than September 2020.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Applicants should have at least a Master’s Degree (PhD preferred) in English Language/Applied Linguistics or a related field and at least 3 years of experience in teaching English to students at the tertiary level. Applicants with proven record of any of the following are highly encouraged to apply:
developed and/or taught English courses targeting science and engineering students;
developed and/or taught English courses targeting medical students;
developed and/or taught English courses targeting students of legal studies;
developed and/or taught English courses targeting business and management students;
developed and/or taught English courses targeting music students;
developed and/or taught language courses (German, Spanish, or any other major language) to second language learners.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
teaching University Core English courses or required courses targeting language majors;
teaching elective courses;
assisting in curriculum development and administrative assignments.
Salary & Benefits
Salary will be competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made under the establishment of CUHK, Shenzhen and statutory benefits will be provided according to the prevailing labor laws applicable in the PRC. The appointee will be based at the University campus in Shenzhen, PRC.
