Position: Assistant Professor

Term of Contract: Full-time 1-year contract
Salary: Salary is based on work experience.
Responsibility of position:
Teaching approximately ten 90-minute English language classes / week. The majority of classes are taught in the Special Course in Academic English Skills (SCAS), a program designed to prepare a small percentage of Nagasaki University students with the academic English skills necessary for studying abroad. General Education curriculum English Communication courses are a secondary responsibility.
Teaching two short (1-week) intensive TOEFL preparation courses to Nagasaki Students.
Organizing and participating in a weekend English Camp with SCAS students in fall.
Organizing and participating in two English Camps overseas. (3 nights/4 days)
Working collaboratively with other instructors in the SCAS team to develop materials and curricula for the SCAS Program.
Working towards improving and maintaining the educational goals and ideals of Nagasaki University.
Preparing and accompanying non-SCAS students for study abroad.
Participating in other duties (e.g., research, publication, participation in faculty development, subcommittee work) related to the Center for Language Studies and Nagasaki University.
MA in TESOL or TESOL-related field.
Demonstrated successful teaching experience.
Demonstrated experience in EFL or ESL curriculum and materials development.
Ability to teach English classes in SCAS Program and in General English Education.
Regional and/or international conference presentation experience and research interests /abilities in the TESOL or TESOL-related field.
Minimum 3 years of teaching experience at Junior College level or higher (part-time experience included).
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and administrative staff.
Advanced English language competency. Working knowledge of Japanese is also preferable, but not required.
