The Department of Second Language Studies at Indiana University invites applications for the Academic Director position in the Intensive English Program (IEP). This is a 12-month appointment with an initial three-year contract at the rank of Lecturer. Lecturers apply for promotion to senior lecturer (via portfolio assessment) after 5 years. Position begins August 1, 2020.
The position has a 3/3 base teaching load with a 50% course release per year for administrative duties. These include, but are not limited to, leading in all academic areas of operation for the IEP; supervising the instructors; maintaining office hours for students; taking responsibility for morale and good communication; representing the IEP and the department by participation in and service to professional organizations (such as TESOL, NAFSA, UCIEP, and CEA); building and maintaining working relationships with other University offices (including but not limited to the Office of International Services); and supporting departmental efforts for professional development for graduate-student instructors. The Academic Director also coordinates with the Director of Budget and Administration, the IEP Curriculum Coordinator, and the IEP Advisory Committee on matters such as budgeting and administration, course scheduling, continuing accreditation activities and reviews, and organizing UCIEP, EnglishUSA, and CEA self-studies.
Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in Second Language Studies, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field. Administrative experience in an ESL program and previous UCIEP and/or CEA affiliation is strongly preferred. Five years’ experience teaching in an IEP and overseas experience are strongly desirable.
