The Department of Communication and Media at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute invites applicants for a full-time lecturer position in TESOL, beginning fall 2020.
The primary teaching responsibility for this position includes teaching courses in Effective Communication for Class Pedagogy for international graduate teaching assistants, as well as courses in writing and oral communication for undergraduate international students. The position also includes conducting language proficiency assessments of international teaching assistants, helping international students in the Center for Global Communication+Design with writing and oral presentations, and training tutors in the Center to work with international students. Other teaching assignments may be made as needed by the Department or the Center for Global Communication+Design.
Applicants must have a PhD, EdD, or foreign degree equivalent in TESOL or a closely related area at the time of appointment. Applicant must have at least three (3) years of successful English as a Second Language (ESL) and English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teaching, experience teaching academic writing to multilingual writers at the university level in the United States, and knowledge of contemporary approaches to second language/multilingual writing. Experience in graduate level teaching and pre-service teacher training is strongly preferred.
