The University of Texas at Austin, Department of Special Education is seeking a faculty member in Equity and Diversity in Special Education at the Associate or Full Professor level. The mission of the program area is to advance equity and justice at the intersections of dis/ability, race, social class, gender, sexuality, migration, and language in education and society. Strong candidates will have active and funded research agendas, excellent leadership, and a demonstrated commitment to instructional practices, policies, and programs that enhance equitable opportunities for individuals with disabilities and families, particularly those from historically marginalized backgrounds. The faculty member will bring critical theories and methods to their research—including but not limited to disability studies in education, intersectionality, critical race theory, and multilingualism and language acquisition—and a record of high impact publications.
Duties include teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in special education, advising students, and contributing to the overall refinement of our undergraduate and graduate programs. Candidates who have a record of serving and partnering with culturally diverse and minoritized communities across multiple levels of educational systems (e.g., schools, districts, higher education) will be strongly considered. The faculty member will join colleagues who work across our nationally ranked College of Education on research and projects related to enhancing diversity and equity. Scholars of underrepresented groups in academia and candidates with experience in culturally and linguistically diverse settings are strongly encouraged to apply.
