At Study Group, our North American business continues to grow. . We’re looking for a dynamic and credible individual to be our Academic Manager at a thriving new program at Baylor University.
The Academic Manager will be an essential contributor to the Baylor University Global Gateway Program and the ongoing success of the program’s students. This position has oversight of English language curriculum design and implementation and is responsible for the management and/or development of English language instructors in collaboration with the Vice Provost for Global Engagement. This position is also member of the Study Group Higher Education Academic Team for North America, contributing to the development and improvement of academic operations of Study Group as a whole.
Develop, update, and revise English language curriculum on an ongoing basis and once annually
Stay current with English language trends and best pedagogical practices
Meet with faculty to maintain curricular integrity and effectiveness
Observe, evaluate, and provide constructive feedback to faculty
Develop faculties' capacities and skills through professional development as needed
Assess outcomes of content and English for Academic Purposes courses and ensure collaboration between faculty
Develop and deliver academic content for new student orientation and workshops
Establish, promote, and maintain a focused classroom learning environment
Act as guide and resource for Center Director in specialized areas
Call and lead program faculty meetings
Teach a maximum of three hours of English for Academic Purposes course per semester
Collect and provide Center Director with student progress reports and grades
Coordinate and lead entrance and exit exams each semester
Prepare lesson plans and syllabi and upload to central digital storage
Collect, review, and approve faculty syllabi each semester
Assist with logistics of job posting, candidate vetting, and interview scheduling
Develop and implement faculty orientation and on-boarding
Program Administration and Management
Contribute to the development of academic portions of the overall program budget
Manage academic schedule for changes to enrollments, meeting spaces, times, and instructors, collaborating with Center Director and Partner administration when needed
Ensure center compliance with academic policies and procedures
Maintain direct contact with Baylor University department heads regarding Baylor content courses for the program, with guidance and oversight from the Vice Provost for Global Engagement
Collect and analyze student data
Qualifications and Training
This job requires
a Master’s Degree in TESOL, applied linguistics, education, or a similar field
Experience working with international students in a higher education setting
Experience in English for Academic Purposes curriculum design and development.
Additionally, people skills are essential –candidates need a high level of cultural sensitivity and empathy, strong relationship management skills and the ability to mentor/coach.. Organization and flexibility are key as well as the ability to prioritize projects and handle multiple requests simultaneously. Candidates must be comfortable managing faculty, working in a matrixed organization, and reporting to an off-site supervisor. Creativity and enthusiasm for language are appreciated.
