South Dakota State University is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and dynamic leader as Coordinator of the English as a Second Language (ESL) program. The Coordinator will provide leadership in all aspects of planning and supervision for the program. This position oversees a comprehensive ESL program to meet the needs of prospective and current international students as well as non-native English speakers in the local and regional workforce. This position is supervised by the Assistant Vice President for International Affairs. This is a 12-month, benefit-eligible position within the Office of International Affairs.

ESL Program Development and Management
Work with relevant campus units, assess ESL curricular and programmatic needs on campus and continually monitor and adjust ESL program to meet those needs;
Hire and develop quality ESL Instructors;
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate all ESL personnel;
Represent the ESL program to other campus constituencies;
Create and maintain ESL policies and procedures.
ESL Curriculum Development and Management
Direct and develop ESL curriculum to focus on academic preparation in English, creating a pathway program into South Dakota State University undergraduate and graduate programs;
Teach ESL classes as needed to include developing curricula and syllabi, delivering instruction, and assess students;
Implement assessment model to evaluate ESL curriculum effectiveness;
Develop and assess effectiveness of online ESL program.
ESL Student Recruitment and Retention
Work with International Student Recruiter, develop and execute marketing plan to attract international students to SDSU;
Develop ESL student orientation for SDSU main campus as well as other collaborative agreement areas;
Act as an advocate and counselor for ESL students and provide guidance related to non-immigrant, cultural assimilation, and campus-wide issues;
Organize social and cultural events for ESL students.

MINIMUM (REQUIRED) QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Master’s degree in TESL, Linguistics, Composition/Rhetoric or related field (degree in hand by start date).
Experience: Minimum of three years’ experience in ESL teaching and administration required.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Professional knowledge of ESL approaches and methodologies, including assessment techniques, test/measurement principles, and instructional material design and development;
Strong oral and written communication skills;
Comfortable and enthusiastic in a wide range of cultural groups and cross-cultural relationships;
Ability to communicate clearly in English to non-native speakers.
Familiarity with U.S. immigration regulations as they pertain to ESL students and programs;
Goal-oriented leader with ability to initiate action plans;
Experience with online course delivery formats.
