The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (“University”) is established in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval of the Ministry of Education. It inherits the educational philosophy and academic systems of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is intended to develop into a world-class research university with strong Chinese cultural influence. It is committed to nurturing high-level talents with global perspective, Chinese tradition, and social responsibility.
At present, the University has programmers in science, engineering, economic management, and humanities and social science, etc. Its long-term goal is to have 11,000 domestic and international students, 7,500 of whom will be undergraduate students and 3,500 Masters or PhD students.
The University has an international learning environment, a bilingual teaching pedagogy with English being the primary medium of instruction, a collegiate system, general education curriculum, multidisciplinary programmes, and a student-centered educational philosophy.
The School of Humanities and Social Science (HSS) HSS has two missions. First, HSS provides university core curriculum for all students, including general education, English language competency, Chinese cultural heritage and language competency, physical education, basic competency in information technology (IT) applications.
Beyond the university core curriculum, HSS intends to develop to become a school of excellence in humanities and social sciences, and to provide high-quality programmes in multiple areas at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, including, but not limited to, translation & interpreting studies, simultaneous interpreting, applied psychology, international affairs & international relations (global studies), internet and new media, advanced English communication, urban studies, educational studies, sociological studies. The School of Humanities and Social Science at CUHK(SZ) invites application for faculty position in translation technology at the Senior Lecturer/Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer level.
Junior applicant should have (i) a Ph.D. degree (by the time of reporting duty) in NLP or related areas; (ii) high potential in teaching and research, (iii) a high level of English language proficiency.
Applicant should be able to teach a wide range of courses, especially in language technologies such NLP, CAT, MT, PE and other related areas. Extensive work experience with LSP will be favourably considered.
Candidate for Associate and Full Professor post is expected to have demonstrated academic leadership and strong commitment to the highest standard of excellence. Appointment will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially, leading to longer-term appointment or tenure later subject to mutual agreement. Exceptionally, appointment with tenure can be offered forthwith to candidates of proven ability.
The appointee is expected to commence work in the academic year 2018-19.
Salary and Fringe Benefits
Salary will be competitive, commensurate with experience and academic accomplishments. Appointments will be made under the establishment of CUHK, Shenzhen and statutory benefits will be provided according to the prevailing labor laws applicable to the PRC. The appointee will be based in Shenzhen, China.

The Senate of CUHK is responsible for the assessment and approval of the academic programmes. The School of Science and Engineering (SSE) will begin to admit undergraduate students in 2015. The University will also start to admit postgraduate students in the academic year of 2014 to 2015.
