Professors in Education for Bilingual Education and ELLs
The University of Washington Bothell School of Educational Studies invites applications for an Assistant Professor with a focus in ESOL and Literacy at the elementary level. This position is tenure-track, full-time (100% FTE), with a 9 month service period. Anticipated start date is September 16, 2019.
The position involves teaching and program coordination in the school ESOL and literacy programs as part of the School’s Bachelor of Arts in Educational Studies. ESOL specific curriculum emphasizes assessment, planning, and instruction. Additional coursework focuses on the integration of general education and ESOL in the area of elementary literacy, with a particular emphasis on emergent reading and writing and language acquisition. The successful candidate must have demonstrated potential for teaching excellence, for conducting and publishing scholarly research, and for articulating a research agenda contributing to knowledge of ESOL and literacy.

Duties and Responsibilities
•Teach classes in School of Educational Studies programs, including: Bachelor of Arts, teacher certification, ESOL and Reading endorsements, and Master of Education. Courses typically utilize a combination of face-to-face instruction, online-learning, and applied experiences and performance tasks. •Provide individual coaching in conjunction with school-based internships •Participate in faculty working groups for teacher certification •Advise undergraduate and graduate students in appropriate content areas •Participate in faculty governance for school and university direction •All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service
•An earned doctorate, or foreign equivalent, (earned by August 2019) in ESOL, literacy education, or closely related field •Expertise in undergraduate and graduate-level ESOL and reading/literacy instruction •Evidence of teaching university level coursework, particularly demonstration of success delivering offerings in early/emergent literacy education. •3-5 years public school teaching experience or equivalent, P-3 preferred in the area of literacy, ESOL or a related field. •Familiarity with Washington state and national competencies for beginning ESOL educators and English Language Proficiency (ELP) Standards used when planning and teaching English language learners. •Commitment to strategies that support social justice •Ability to demonstrate respect for and a commitment to diversity •Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment
•Additional experience in teaching and/or research that bridges ESOL and general education at the elementary level •Additional experience in the writing of personnel preparation grants in support of preservice teacher education •Expertise in field supervision of pre-service teacher candidates
