The Department of Curriculum and Instruction seeks a clinical assistant professor of Literacy and Language Education with a specialization in English Language Learning beginning August 12, 2019. The successful candidates will be required to teach online courses in the Graduate Licensure Program in English Language Learning and related graduate and undergraduate courses in English learning, as necessary.
This is an academic year clinical faculty position with reappointments in 3-year contractual terms. Clinical appointments are non-tenure track but with the potential for promotion in rank. The position also includes the possibility of summer employment. Responsibilities include: (a) teaching in-service and pre-service teachers enrolled in the ELL program (b) advising graduate students and chairing graduate committees (c) participating in program administration and recruitment.
An earned doctorate in ELL/TESOL or a closely related field is required. The ability to speak a language other than English is preferred. Strong written and oral communication skills are required. We seek a candidate with a strong commitment to diversity who will promote a multicultural atmosphere in teaching. The successful candidate will possess: (a) understanding of second language acquisition and English language development (b) understanding of content-area instruction for English language learners (c) understanding of language teaching, learning, and assessment (d) understanding of applied linguistics as related to ELL instruction (e) familiarity with K-12 ELL education programs (f) experience with online teaching (g) classroom ELL teaching experience at the K-12 level.
