The Senior Editor, ELL & World Languages will manage the development of Learning A-Z resources designed to support English Language Learners and students in dual language or bilingual programs. This involves leading a team of editors, collaborating in the ideation of these teacher- and student-facing products, overseeing Raz-Plus ELL Edition, Authentic Spanish, and translations projects, and, with others, maintaining the student- or teacher-facing websites that host the products.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Participates in the ideation of ELL & World Languages products, and other LAZ products in collaboration with Product Managers, Vice President of Publishing, department Director, and others.
Leads team of editors and contractors in the creation of ELL & World Languages products for students and teachers once product requirements are determined (including overseeing the creation of product style guides).
Manages multiple projects, including prototyping, scheduling, documenting, and implementing efficient processes and supports team of editors in managing projects.
Collaborates with Project Managers to draft and maintain project budget, timeline, and resource allocation.
Collaborates with Product Managers, Vice President of Research and Development, department Director, and others in planning the overall vision and scope of ELL & World Languages products and in developing a publication plan for the ongoing creation of products.
Collaborates with Executive Editors to incorporate instructional supports for ELLs in Learning A-Z resources.
Reviews and edits products created by team, contractors, or outside vendors to ensure that they meet the company’s quality standards and best practices in education.
Collaborates with Marketing and Sales to ensure products meet market and customer needs.
Collaborates with others to ensure that feedback from customers, advisory boards, and user-testing evaluation are reflected in the development and enhancement of products.
Provides requirements for products or features to Engineering and collaborates with Engineering throughout deployment of products or features, including conducting or supervising reviews (“QA”) upon release of products or features.
Collaborates with Product Managers, Directors, and others to update and improve the relevant website and to ensure website delivers the best possible experience to users.
Upon request, reviews and edits various website, marketing, videos, and other materials related to ELL & World Languages products.
Mentors Editors and contractors to develop interpersonal, editorial, and project management skills.
Remains informed about trends and innovations in the industry.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
Lends his or her expertise to other departments by attending or presenting at meetings with educators and administrators when required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MA required in education, learning sciences, or a related field
At least three years teaching experience with English language learners and/or in dual language/bilingual programs
A minimum of two years developing curriculum or educational materials for K-8
Fluent command of oral and written Spanish
Strong attention to detail and excellent editing and managerial abilities required
Excellent critical thinking skills, to include ability to identify implicit assumptions, evaluate arguments, draw sound conclusions, and propose and implement practical solutions to problems
Excellent written and oral communication skills to include maintaining a courteous and respectful professional demeanor towards peers, subordinates, and supervisors in the face of challenging situations
Strong sense of professionalism, adaptability and solution-based problem solving, as shown by being a constructive presence in the company for employees in all levels and departments
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a variety of personnel
Ability to organize development processes, make sound decisions, execute and meet deadlines
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
1-3 years work with an educational publisher or educational website
1-3 years experience managing a team of editors
1-3 years experience in project management
1-3 years experience producing and managing print and digital products
1-3 years experience implementing systems for tracking work flow and files
Highly proficient in MS Office and Acrobat Pro applications
Basic to fluent command of an additional language
