Massachusetts International Academy's parent company, CERNET Education, is seeking teachers for teaching positions at partner high schools throughout China.
The ESL teacher position entails interactive and communicative instruction that provides language training through a variety of approaches focused on specific programmatic goals: a) university preparation, academic skills, and personal development; b) cultural experience and personal growth; c) English language survival skills and basic literacy; d) western culture and values. Teaching approaches are meaning-focused and student-centered based on the Communicative Language Approach and the Task Based Learning Approach as appropriate. Teachers employ these methods in various ways but generally follow a pattern of presentation, practice and production. Student speaking time is maximized while teacher speaking time is minimized. Teachers deliver a rigorous, relevant, and sequenced course of study from beginner through intermediate to advanced levels, incorporating listening, speaking, reading and writing skills into each class. Teachers are responsible for enforcing all rules of the partner school.
In charge of ESL classes, Grades 10-12
Responsible for supplemental instruction in American culture and/or college preparation depending on program
Responsible for preparation and delivery of language arts classes, in line with expectations outlined in curricula;
Evaluate students and provided monthly and mid and end of term reports;
Influence and motivate students to deliver outstanding performance;
Take part in extra-curricular activities and school sponsored cultural activities;
Support the marketing and recruiting staff, occasionally assigned to weekend marketing events (e.g. demo classes for prospective students)
Monday-Friday for a total of 40 hours of which 20 of those hours would be teacher to student teaching/classroom time
Minimum Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
TESOL/ TEFL/ TESL/CELTA Certification or state educator’s licensure required
Minimum of 2 years relevant teaching experience and references are preferred
