Minimum Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
Bachelor’s Degree in related area and specialized training in all of the following areas:
language teaching methodology
the nature of language/languages (e.g., introduction to linguistics)
the structure of English (e.g., syntax, phonology, morphology, discourse)
second language acquisition
intercultural communication (e.g., sociolinguistics, cross-cultural studies)
Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, or related field
Teaching experience, preferably with ESL learners of elementary-school age.
Willingness to reside in China for the duration of the contract.
Ability to apply interpersonal and communication skills in collaborative settings with local and company-wide colleagues.
Ability to apply goals, objectives, and student learning outcomes through a variety of assessments that have been reliability and validity tested.
Position Duties Include:
Teach two hours per day, five days per week, for at least two 16-week terms.
Implement adopted texts and supplemental materials in the classroom.
Use appropriate methodology specific to the fields of TESOL, pedagogy, and adult education.
Assess student learning with prescribed materials, maintaining accurate records of grades and progress.
Report to direct supervisor academic records, student progress, student feedback, and course outcomes.
10-20 hours per week teaching and record keeping
Paid vacation is detailed in contracts.
Sick and personal days per term are detailed in contracts.
Pay and Benefits:
Salary: Approximately $14,000 for contract period (10 months)
One round-trip ticket to China
Additional Salary Information: Salary approximately $14,000 over 10 month contract period. Furnished apartment and 1 round-trip plane ticket provided.
About English as a Second Language International (ESLi)
ESLi is the original Pathway Program into the universities' degree programs. No TOEFL or IELTS is required. Upon completing our program, ESLi universities guarantee placement to academically qualified students.Students do not need to submit GMAT or GRE exam scores at the time of application for acceptance into the graduate programs. Instead, ESLi affiliated universities allow students to take the exams at the end of the Pre-University level of the ESLi program. ESLi students have full access to campus facilities, services, and activiites. Each school offers ESLi students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the university culture; students are encouraged to participate in social activities and attend sporting events.Students receive 25 hours per week of intensive English language instruction and are challenged in academic reading and writing, research skills, group work, presentations and critical thinking.Listening: Using a variety of sources, students learn effective listening skills that they can implement both inside and outside the classroom.Speaking / Pronunciation: Students gain confidence speaking in a variety of situations: casual conversations, formal dialogue, class ...presentations, etc.Reading: Through in class reading exercises and a personalized reading program, students learn to read for pleasure and for university studies. Exposure to a wide variety of texts provides students with opportunities to find and select their own materials as well as develop some personal preferences.Composition: Through guided practice students learn writing skills from basic paragraphs through the process of researching, organizing, and composing research papers. Confidence in self and peer evaluation is encouraged. Students also learn word-processing skills to prepare for university writing assignments.Grammar: Students are encouraged to learn grammar through use. Grammar instruction is provided within the context of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
