The Fessenden School is seeking a part-time English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher to teach small group lessons and provide tutorial support to a diverse population of international students in grades 5-9 enrolled in our English Language Learning program. Tutorial classes are comprised of two to three students and the priority is to teach English language skills in order to strengthen each student's listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
Teach ELL students in pairs or triads twice per week
Differentiate learning effectively in mixed-ability groups of boys in Grades 5-9
Develop curricula by using various resources to provide writing skills lessons with a strong focus on grammar practice
Develop ongoing reading curricula based on students’ reading levels
Actively build vocabulary and foster reading comprehension skills during reading practice
Monitor students’ individualized online grammar practice
Rotate students within each small group to provide one-on-one tutorials on editing, writing, and/or grammar
Assess student work, identify error patterns, and tailor instruction to meet each student’s individual needs
Assign effort grades for all students and write student comments for report cards for each trimester
Meet with parents or consultants as requested or during parent visit days
Meet twice monthly with Co-Chairs of the ELL program to assess student progress and/or modify learning goals
Incorporate organizational and study skills wherever possible in preparation for ELL students’ eventual matriculation to grade-level classes
Possess excellent organizational and planning skills
