The Director of the English Language Center (ELC) provides academic leadership for the delivery of high-quality academic programming, including a university-level intensive program in English as a second language (ESL), Global Bridge Program, Specialized English Language Programs (SELPs), andELCintegrated curricular initiatives across campus. Reporting to the Assistant Academic Vice President for Global Engagement (AAVP-CGE), the Director oversees the operations of allELCprograms, serving as an advocate for international students across the university, and supporting the admissions and recruitment of international students to Gonzaga’sELC, undergraduate, and graduate programs. TheELCDirector works closely with theAAVP-CGEand other departments across the institution in support of the overall academic success of international students, and is part of an on-campus team that supports international students’ retention and engagement with the Gonzaga community.
1. Master’s degree inTESOLor a related field. 2. A minimum of 5 years’ experience teaching English, at least 3 years at the tertiary level, with a demonstrated commitment to academic research and/or professional development. 3. A minimum of 3 years’ experience running anIEPwith demonstrated managerial, supervisory, recruitment, and/or mentoring skills. 4. Evidence of a strong commitment to international education, collaboration and diversity in the work place. 5. Keen interpersonal and intercultural skills, as evidenced by effective collaborative work with faculty, staff, and students from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds 6. Highly organized and self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills, and the willingness and ability to manage multiple demands from numerous sources; must be flexible, adaptable, and sensitive to the demands of an international office. 7. Experience living or working overseas. 8. Proficiency in more than one language.
