The University now invites applications and nominations for a Lecturer /Assistant Lecturer for The Centre for Self-Access Language Learning - The School of Humanities and Social Science
The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (“University”) is established in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval of the Ministry of Education. It inherits the educational philosophy and academic systems of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is intended to evolve into a world class research university with strong Chinese cultural influence. It is committed to nurturing high end talents with global perspective, Chinese tradition and social responsibility.
At present, the University has programmes in science, engineering, economic management, and humanities and social science. The University is featured with an international learning environment, a bilingual teaching pedagogy, a collegiate system, general education courses, multidisciplinary programmes and a student-centered educational philosophy.
The aim of creating the School of Humanities and Social Science is to provide foundations in humanities and social science through its teaching for students to gain insights into the past, while enabling them to critically examine contemporary issues, and explore answers for a sustainable future, so that our students can be better positioned to respond to challenges facing China and the world.
In the beginning years, our School offers core courses of the University, ranging from language courses to General Education foundation and elective courses, including IT and PE courses. Our curricula focus is on developing students’ analytical abilities, critical comprehension, effective communication skills, IT literacy, as well as their physical fitness, which are essential to their further studies and lifelong learning.
The Self-Access Language Learning Centre (The SALL Centre) is a unit within the School of Humanities and Social Science set up to provide individualized language learning opportunities for students to consolidate and brush up their level of English language proficiency. The Centre is open to all students enrolled at CUHK(SZ), regardless of their levels of study. Learning is completely on students’ own, at the students’ own pace and by the students’ own choice of learning materials. Services provided at the Centre include:

Seminars and the English Table
The e-learning programmes are self-accessed and provide students with the opportunity to reinforce and expand their knowledge and skills in the use of English. Tutoring provides students with face-to-face consultation on problems and issues students may have in using English. Workshops and seminars are offered regularly to students on specific areas of language that may be of interest to students. The English Table is set up to provide opportunities for students to have care free conversations in English.
The University welcomes high caliber faculty of diverse background from around the world to join us and establish a top-tier School of Humanities and Social Science in China.
Applicants should have:
(i) a post-graduate degree in English, TEFL/TESOL, or (applied) linguistics;
(ii) at least three (3) years of teaching experience in ESL/EFL or English at the tertiary level
(iii) proven record of teaching excellence; and
(iv) High level of English proficiency. Experience in materials writing, programme planning and/or working in a language lab or Writing Centre will be a plus.
The appointee will be responsible for:
(a) holding workshops and seminars on specific topics in English;
(c) developing language learning materials;
(d) programme planning;
(e) performing duties as assigned and
(f) assisting in day-to-day operation of the Centre.
The appointee is expected to commence work in the academic year of 2017-18.

Located in a picturesque site to the south of the Universiade Park in Longgang District, Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, the campus of CUHK(SZ) occupies an area of around 100 hectares (1 million square metres) with a buildable area of around 500,000 square metres. The green pastures, the rolling hills and the serene lake offer stunning views and a quiet learning environment. The initial phase (55,000 square metres) of campus construction was completed in March of 2014, whilst the phase 1 (300,000 square metres) construction is expected to be completed in 2016.
There are three schools in CUHK(SZ), namely the School of Management and Economics, the School of Science and Engineering, and the School of Humanities and Social Science. The Senate of CUHK is responsible for the assessment and approval of the academic programmes. CUHK(SZ) will first welcome 300 undergraduate students in fall 2014 in the School of Management and Economics. The School of Science and Engineering (SSE) will begin to admit undergraduate students in 2015. The University will also start to admit postgraduate students in the academic year of 2014 to 2015.
