English as a Second Langauge International at Western Kentucky University is seeking a full-time language instructor. WKU is located in Bowling Green, Kentucky, a mid-sized city located sixty miles north of Nashville, Tennessee. ESLI at WKU serves adult international students who are preparing to enter the university after completing our program. We are seeking qualified instructors to help us fulfill our mission of building a better global community by connecting people and cultures through international language study.

Minimum Education Requirements:
Master’s Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
Master’s Degree in related area and specialized training in all of the following areas:
language teaching methodology
the nature of language/languages (e.g., introduction to linguistics)
the structure of English (e.g., syntax, phonology, morphology, discourse)
second language acquisition
intercultural communication (e.g., sociolinguistics, cross-cultural studies)
In some cases a bachelor's degree can be considered in combination with a TESOL certificate.
Teaching experience, preferably at university level with ESL adult learners
Ability to relate to students from varied cultural, educational, and economic backgrounds.
Ability to apply interpersonal and communication skills in collaborative settings with local and company-wide colleagues.
Ability to review, evaluate, and apply goals, objectives, and student learning outcomes through a variety of assessments that have been reliability and validity tested.
Position Duties Include:
Teach five classes per term, three terms per year, over four levels of the ESLi program.
Allow at least five hours per week for student conferences/office hours (3), faculty meetings (1), and other training meetings (1).
Adhere to the federal, state, and university requirements related to FERPA, Title IX, copyright, and other legal mandates, including participating in trainings and applying knowledge in the classroom and in student interactions.
Implement adopted texts and supplemental materials in the classroom and participate in the review of course materials, including textbooks, assignments, assessments, and learning management systems using feedback from colleagues, students, and administrators, and research from the field of TESOL and assessment.
Use appropriate methodology specific to the fields of TESOL, pedagogy, and adult education.
Provide academic advising through regular office hours and specialized meetings with assigned advisees and students.
Participate in all academic excursions, including field trips, orientation events, and student pick-ups.
Attend and participate in all departmental and committee meetings.
Assist in development, review, and assessment of program curricula, assessments, activities, and student services.
Regularly make use of email to interact with colleagues, students, and administrators.
Use the ESLi-approved learning management system daily to post syllabi and assignments, assign homework and assessments, track grades and attendance, and communicate with students and colleagues.
Participate in at least fifteen hours of professional development per year.
Minimum of 30 hours per week teaching, office hours, and other ESLi duties required.
Three weeks paid vacation per year to be taken between semesters.
Four sick days per term, two of which may be taken for personal business.
