The ELP will be hiring several 9-month non-tenured Senior Instructor positions to teach courses in its programs starting in August 2017. A Senior Instructor (Instructor I) demonstrates excellence in teaching English as a second language for international undergraduate, graduate and non-degree seeking students. Course assignments may include teaching in INTO USF programs (Academic English, Pathway), graduate school courses (International Teaching Assistant or ITA) or custom/community courses (e.g. USF Custodial English courses). Instructor duties include teaching courses assigned, preparation, maintaining and reporting academic records such as syllabi, attendance, grading, and conducting course evaluations. In addition instructors are expected each semester to hold regular office hours, attend program meetings, participate in our in-house professional development day and assist with orientation and testing duties. Senior instructors must demonstrate continued professional development on a yearly basis and are expected to actively support the ELP’s mission, core values and instructional markers of best practice. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE)
M.A. in Applied Linguistics, TESOL, ESL/EFL
Minimum three years of full-time experience teaching ESL in a post-secondary institution
University coursework as shown on a transcript for the areas of language teaching methodology, the nature of language/linguistics (e.g. introduction to linguistics), the structure of English (e.g. syntax, phonology, morphology, discourse), second language acquisition (SLA), intercultural communication (e.g. sociolinguistics, cross cultural studies) and a supervised practicum
Evidence of successful teaching as demonstrated by classroom observations and/or student evaluations.
Evidence of the ability to design lessons with a content-based language learning approach.
Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Advanced proficiency in spoken and written academic English.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE)
Experience with and knowledge of a variety of curriculum approaches and methodologies for teaching English as a Second Language to include content-based instruction and English for Academic Purposes.
Evidence of contributions to colleagues' professional development, demonstrated by workshops, collaborative materials development, or other activities
Strong leadership and organizational skills, attention to detail, collaborative approach to working with others, and strong communication skills
