Southern New Hampshire University's traditional campus is seeking a dynamic, vision-oriented Director to lead its Institute of Language Education. Comprising an Intensive English Program, Transitional Bridge (undergraduate and graduate), and MS in TEFL (taught both locally and in Vietnam), the Institute also promotes language education through its Modern World Languages offerings.
Reporting to the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, the Director of the Institute for Language Education will lead the unit into its next chapter with assistance from a coordinator for the Intensive English Program, a coordinator for Teaching English as a Foreign Language, and potentially a coordinator for Modern World Languages. The Institute Director is a 12-month position based in Manchester, NH with the possibility of short-term teaching assignments in the University's overseas programs.
Essential duties and responsibilities of this position include the following:
Grow the Institute's programs with knowledge of current and future domestic and international markets in support of the mission of the School of Arts and Sciences
Manage budgets using data-driven decision-making
Review programs by leveraging a substantial knowledge base of language acquisition pedagogy
Supervise staff and faculty from a position of best practices
Advocate change as prescribed from data-driven and knowledge-based reviews
Promote language education across the university
Communicate effectively among multiple audiences and stakeholders to ensure program awareness and policy compliance
Operate from a point of view that is guided by the best interest of students
Model an awareness of, and respect for, cultural diversity
Fluency in English and knowledge of at least one additional language (CEFR: B1 – B2 or greater)
5+ years' experience teaching language acquisition in a higher education setting
5+ years of high-level leadership experience preferably in an Intensive English Program in a higher education setting
Proven ability to manage budgets and personnel to achieve mission- and market-driven goals
Demonstrated success as a change agent capitalizing on key trends and conceptualizing future opportunities
Terminal degree preferred; combination of experience in higher education management and best practice in language acquisition education will be considered
Typically Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm with flexibility to meet business demands as needed.
