PROFILE of the UNIVERSITY

ROLE of the POSITION
Full-time director (12 month contract) to provide administrative and academic leadership for the English Language Center, a unit within the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas that provides language instruction and support to both undergraduate and graduate UNLV students who are non-native speakers. The Director of the English Language Center (ELC) has both Administrative and Academic leadership responsibilities.
Develop and implement a strategic plan for the ELC in concert with the College of Liberal Arts and other UNLV stakeholders; Develop and coordinate programs and procedures with other campus units that serve and employ students who are non-native speakers, including undergraduate and graduate admissions, colleges such as Hotel and Engineering, the First-Year Writing Program, and the Writing Center; Partner with the Department of World Languages and Cultures to coordinate the use of the Language Resource Center; Administer the ELC budget and supervise staff (including student assistants); Schedule and facilitate regular meetings of ELC staff and faculty; Serve as marketing coordinator and recruiter for the ELC; Facilitate cultural immersion opportunities such as the Conversation Partner Program (CPC) and the English Language Center Club (ELCC).
Develop, maintain, and review curriculum and supervise the English Language Proficiency Certificate Programs offered by the ELC; Work with the College on enrollment management in order to schedule and staff classes; Recruit, mentor, and evaluate teaching faculty; Teach appropriate classes in ELC; Provide International Teaching Assistants support as well as proficiency testing, student evaluation, and placement; Engage in professional development and service through organizations such as TESOL and NAFSA.
Doctoral degree in TESL related field ( 2nd language acquisition, applied linguistics, curriculum and instruction or related field); Three to five years of unit leadership delivering strategic and operational objectives; Minimum five years teaching English to non-native speakers at an institution of higher education in the United States; Demonstrated knowledge of admissions and enrollment, financial planning, student support, development and training of faculty, human resource issues and facilities management; Eligibility to work and travel freely in the U.S. and abroad.
In addition to the Minimum Qualifications the Preferred Qualifications are:
Experience with CALL--Computer-Assisted Language Learning or TELL--Technology-enhanced Language Learning; Experience living and working internationally; Proficiency in another language; Familiarity with U.S. immigration policies related to international students; Experience working collaboratively in an organization with multiple stakeholders; Excellent written and communication skills; Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
