Jinling High School, American Division in Nanjing, China is seeking a full-time 11th/12th grade ESL teacher with an emphasis in Writing Composition.
The Jinling American Division program is preparing Chinese students to attend top American universities for undergraduate studies following their graduation from high school. The TOEFL scores for most of our students at the end of 10th grade falls in the range of about 80-100.
The 11th grade writing course will emphasize academic writing, with an emphasis on teaching students to organize their argument and using the persuasive writing style. There is also an emphasis on preparing students for the SAT writing portion. In the 12th grade, there is also an emphasis on teaching students to write personal statements for college applications.
The standard teaching load is approximately twenty 40-minute class sessions per week. Class sizes are approximately 20 students.
Jinling High School is located in the center of downtown Nanjing, a modern Chinese city of 8 million people. The school is within a short walking distance to numerous Western and Chinese restaurants. Public transportation is excellent. Teachers typically live in apartments within a few minutes walking distance of the school.
The American Division Program has 170 students who study a hybrid American and Chinese high school curriculum. This includes intensive English courses and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. The American Division collaborates with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) to offer several UCLA Extensions courses to 11th and 12th grade students taught by UCLA instructors at Jinling.
Nanjing is a city rich in history, having been the capital of several Chinese dynasties. It is a major college town, home to over 30 universities.
