Massachusetts International Academy (MAIA), a young private residential school offering international students one year of intensive English language preparation before higher education study, is looking for an Education professional to fill the position of Instructional Designer for Online Learning. As a member of MAIA’s Academic team, the qualified candidate will be responsible for developing distance-learning initiatives to create high quality, instructor-led, academically rigorous, and engaging online courses that further the school’s mission. The qualified candidate is an experienced professional who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the instructional design and online learning. The position demands exceptional knowledge in online learning pedagogy, strategies, technologies, program development, and fair use policy. The Instructional Designer for Online Learning collaborates with Information Technology (IT) staff for learning management system access, network access, and technology use needs and reports to the ESL Program Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead production of flipped classroom videos, ensuring quality end product.
Collaborate with the Academic Leadership Team to create lesson planning platforms for teachers.
Lead all eLearning team meetings, involving other necessary employees as needed.
Plans, develops and directs the work performance of the Online Learning Team specifically for Online Learning and Development project(s).
Manage filming calendar, teacher schedules and timesheets, and physical filming.
Guide and support faculty in the best practices for teaching and learning through online and media enriched courses.
Give Faculty feedback on lesson plans and shot sequences, checking Captivate presentations and giving feedback before they are uploaded.
Review feedback from parent company and partner high schools and update delivery as necessary.
Collaborate with the Academic Leadership Team in planning and delivery of any company teacher training.
Collaborate and negotiate with the team in China when applicable.
Comply and follow all company policies and procedures within the faculty and employee handbooks.
Work collaboratively with faculty, IT, and supervisors to design and develop new classes and revise current courses.
Integrate technologies that are online-learner focused, foster student engagement, active learning, digital scholarship, and collaboration.
Research, evaluate, and implement current and emerging instructional technologies.
Perform administrative duties as well as any other school duties as assigned and as required by the position.
Support any faculty members who are interested in flipping their ESL classes.
The Instructional Designer of Online Learning and Development is a member of the Academic Leadership Team, but does not carry out supervisory responsibilities unless otherwise directed by the ESL Program Director.
Education and Experience
M.A. in TESOL, Applied Linguistics or closely related field.
Desired - Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Learning Science, or related field Experience working in an Instructional Design related role with responsibility for end to end creation of instructor-led and/or e-learning materials required.
Knowledge of Blackboard and other Learning Management Systems (LMS).
Proficient with Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Captivate and other e-learning authoring tools.
Proficiency in being able to create online classes and/or have participated in creating online classes successfully within the last 5 years.
E-learning course design including developing online learning content Expertise in designing, developing, planning, implementing and assessing training.
Working in an International environment a plus.
Understanding of effective instructional design methodologies and adult learning theory, online teaching and learning experience.
Working knowledge of copyright, universal design, and accessibility.
Ability to collaborate with subject matter experts, global stakeholders, and manages ESL/EFL course design and teaching experience.
Demonstrated expertise in integrating technology-enhanced and digital pedagogies.
Willingness to stay current in technology skills and to learn emerging technologies as needed Experience with filming and audio recording.
Ability and willingness to share technological expertise with other staff members in daily work and in professional development activities.
Must be a self-starter, able to work autonomously on tasks as well as create and meet deadlines.
Ability to read, understand, synthesize and analyze most complex documents.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints so others will comprehend.
Ability to write speeches and effectively present information to top management.
Ability to listen and speak clearly.
Ability to communicate orally effectively in various professional settings.
Knowledge of arithmetic; ability to calculate amounts such as percentages.
