ESL Instructor Position to begin March 15, 2018
At St. Ambrose University, INTERLINK provides international students with English instruction, academic preparation, and cross-cultural training. Teaching is experiential, holistic, needs-based, humanistic, heuristic, and reflective. The INTERLINK tenets of instruction are situated in a curriculum that is project-based and process-oriented, enabling students and instructor to explore dimensions of learning unavailable in more confining structures. Lesson design balances formal and informal learning with in-class and out-of-class learning. Class sizes average 9-10 students. The academic calendar is five 9-week terms per year.
Regularly scheduled, private planning conference with students
Informal student support and relationship-building
Training and Collaboration
Active engagement in mentoring the first year of employment
Participation in Focus Days or Focus Sessions
Participation in weekly staff meetings
Participation in level committees
Observation and feedback, and course evaluation briefings
Collaboration with other instructors as requested
Cultivation of one’s own curiosity as it pertains to professional growth and personal satisfaction
Assistance with registration, orientation, placement testing, and graduation
Development of and attendance at INTERLINK-organized student events
Responsiveness to special interests and skills toward recruitment
Daily checking of INTERLINK email
Utilization of INTERLINK resources online
Submission of student feedback and progress reports each term
Annual review prior to contract renewal

Master’s degree in TESOL or applied linguistics
A genuine commitment to students, teaching, and the profession
Two or more years of relevant teaching experience
Strong interest in cross-cultural training
Familiarity with innovative approaches to language teaching
Applicants should also hold U.S. citizenship or residency and be highly proficient in English
Overseas teaching experience, participation in the Peace Corps, and/or fluency in a second language are highly desired
Additional Salary Information: First-year salary is typically between $35,000 and $38,000. (Commensurate with qualification)
