The Department of Teaching, Learning, and Culture invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in literacy and ESL education at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in the 2018-2019 academic year. Responsibilities: A successful candidate is expected to conduct research, teach graduate and undergraduate courses in literacy and ESL, and mentor graduate students. The candidate is also expected to seek external funding from a variety of sources to support research activities, and to contribute to the on-going activities and initiatives of the Department, College, and University. Required Qualifications include a)an earned doctorate in reading/literacy, ESL, or closely related field; b) a record of research-based publications; c) a record of or strong potential for extramural funding commensurate with experience; and d) evidence of commitment to diversity and engagement in professional leadership activities. Preferred Qualifications include a)experience in evidence-based reading instruction for students in the middle grades, reading assessment in the elementary and/or middle grades, dyslexia, and/or literature; b) experience in second language teaching for content-area instruction and second language assessment, particularly for students in urban environments and/or at-risk for academic difficulties; c) application and integration of new technologies in reading/literacy and/or ESL education; d)evidence of effective post-secondary teaching experience; e) engagement in service activities within an academic department.
