Southern New Hampshire University seeks a dynamic, vision-oriented Director for administrative leadership of its Institute for Language Education. An independent unit within the School of Arts and Sciences, the Institute is classroom based and comprises an Intensive English Program, Academic Language Studies (ALS) pathways (undergraduate and graduate), and MS in TEFL (taught both locally and in Vietnam). The Institute also promotes language education across its Modern World Languages offerings. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, the Director of the Institute for Language Education will lead the unit into its next chapter at an exciting time in language education.
Located in Manchester, New Hampshire, the SNHU campus is in the heart of New England. Within an hour of Manchester, you will find the beaches of the New England seacoast, the boating of the New Hampshire Lakes Region, the hiking and skiing of the White Mountains, and the culture of Boston, Massachusetts. Essential duties and responsibilities of this position include the following:
Program Vision, Planning, and Implementation
Grow the Institute's programs with knowledge of current and future domestic and international markets in support of the mission of the School of Arts and Sciences.
Establish the Institute's short- and long-term goals, and provide strategic advice to the Dean
Advocate change as prescribed from data-driven and knowledge-based reviews
Advance and grow learning opportunities for our students
Budget Planning and Execution
Plan and Execute annual budget using data-driven decision-making.
Review programs by leveraging a substantial knowledge base of language acquisition pedagogy
Collaborate with admissions about enrollment goals, and manage their achievement
Cross-University and External Coordination
Promote language education across the University.
Establish, strengthen, and sustain relationships with key units in the University, including International Admissions, International Student Services, and Academic Departments
Build relationships with potential external partners, sponsoring agencies, embassies, and other organizations
Model an awareness of, and respect for, cultural diversity.
Supervise, mentor, evaluate, recruit, and hire staff and faculty
Execute University policy
Monitor and maintain healthy programs
Fluency in English and knowledge of at least one additional language (CEFR: B1 – B2 or greater)
5+ years of proven, high-level leadership experience in a higher education setting, preferably in an Intensive English Program
5+ years' experience teaching language acquisition in a higher education setting
Proven ability to manage budgets and personnel to achieve mission- and market-driven goals
Demonstrated success as a change agent capitalizing on key trends and conceptualizing future opportunities
Terminal degree preferred; combination of experience in higher education management and best practice in language acquisition education will be considered
Typically Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm with flexibility to meet business demands as needed.
