The International Study Center at James Madison University invites applicants for a full-time instructor of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) for the Fall 2017 semester. The position offers a full benefits package.
Members of the EAP faculty deliver quality educational programming to international students studying at the JMU ISC. The program prepares students to enter full-time undergraduate study by providing English language courses in support of the students’ educational goals. Coursework includes traditional language skills courses, as well as study skills, critical thinking, research, and other areas designed to prepare students for success in university coursework. Qualified and experienced EAP staff are a critical component in providing students opportunities for success and are integral to the team approach we take in preparing students for university study.

Deliver 3-5 EAP courses per term in accordance with the curriculum of the International Study Center, including lesson planning, preparation, grading, and all other instructional responsibilities
Review, grade and mark student work and provide students with substantial, timely, and serviceable feedback on that work, including any and all exams
Establish, promote and maintain a focused and productive classroom learning environment
Develop appropriate course materials, student assignments, and end of course examinations, as needed
Contribute to review and revision of the ISC curriculum
Coordinate and collaborate with fellow faculty in professional duties and activities
Contribute to and participate in staff development sessions, regular staff meetings, and ongoing program development
Assist in student orientation as required, including support in placement test proctoring and scoring
Assist in the development of an effective relationship between the Center and the University
Promote student conduct in line with policies detailed in the student handbook
Master’s degree in TESOL, TEFL, Applied Linguistics or closely related field; or Master’s degree + Graduate TESOL/TESL/TEFL certificate
2 or more years of teaching ESL/EFL/EAP to international students either in the USA or elsewhere, preferably in higher education settings
Understanding of the US University system and environment and of the demands that international students will face in undertaking undergraduate or graduate level study
Excellent oral and written communication skills
A demonstrated record of skilled English/ESL/EAP instruction
5 or more years of teaching international students either in the USA or elsewhere preferred
